William Higginson Schofield

William Higginson Schofield (c1865-1930), County Surveyor for Lancashire

Born at Tyldesley the son of Daniel Schofield, Assistant Overseer of the Poor.

1930 Died. 'The death took place yesterday at his home at Fairlawn-road, Lytham, of Mr. William H. Schofield, the former Lancashire County surveyor and bridgemaster. Mr. Schofield, who was 65 years of only retired at the end of March, when he was succeeded by his brother, Mr Peter Schofield. Mr. Schofield had devoted his life to administration, entering the service of the County Council as district surveyor in 1889 and nine years later he was appointed county surveyor. The death of Col. Compton Hall in 1921 the duties of county bridgemaster were added to those of county surveyor, the dual duties being undertaken by Mr. Schofield. While he was county surveyor, many important road improvement schemes were carried through by the County Council, including the widening of the Preston to Blackpool main road, work on which is still in progress. Mr. Schofield leaves a widow and two daughters.'
