WILLIAM HUGHES-JONES was a promising young Member of the Institution whose death, as a result of enemy action, occurred in December 1941, at the early age of twenty-seven. He served his apprenticeship from 1930 to 1935 with Messrs. Vickers-Armstrongs, Ltd., at their Elswick Works, Newcastle upon Tyne; and the rest of his brief career was spent in the service of the same firm, who formed very favourable opinions of his personality and ability. On completing his apprenticeship he entered the drawing office of the gun mounting department and was engaged there until his untimely end.
He was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1937, and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1941.
