CRACKNELL, WILLIAM JOHN, Superintendent of Telegraphs, Queensland, born in London, December 25, 1832; educated at Oxford; arrived in New Zealand, June 1855; appointed Manager, Ipswich Telegraph Department, March 18, 1861; Superintendent of Telegraphs, Queensland, April 9, 1863; Captain, Torpedo Corps, April 15, 1878; and has made many able reports on inter-colonial telegraph and cable construction.
