William Joshua Harding (1848-1915)
1885 Acting Chief Engineer William Joshua Harding has been confirmed as Chief Engineer in Her Majesty’s Fleet.[1]

WILLIAM JOSHUA HARDING, Fleet Engineer R.N. (ref.), died at Streatham on the 25th March, 1915.
Born on the 4th February, 1848, he was trained at Portsmouth Dockyard, and subsequently studied at the Royal School of Naval Architecture.
He entered the Service as second-class assistant engineer in 1867, and served in several of Her Majesty’s ships, advancing through a11 grades to the rank of Fleet Engineer, to which he was appointed in 1892. He acted for 3 years as Instructor of the Japanese Navy, as Engineer-Overseer on the Tyne, and as Overseer in the London district of machinery of torpedo-boats and destroyers under construction. He was placed on the retired list in February, 1903, and subsequently practised as a Consulting Engineer.
Mr. Harding was elected a Member of the Institution on t8he 3rd February, 1903.
