WILLIAM KING-NOEL, first EARL OF LOVELACE, was the son of the seventh Baron King and Ockham and was born in London on the 20th of February, 1505.
After being educated at Cambridge University he entered the Diplomatic Service and acted as secretary under the governorship of Lord Nugent, Lord Commissioner of the Ionian Islands. Mr. King, as he then was, spoke modern Greek fluently. He was recalled to England by the death of his father in 1833, when he succeeded to the title.
Five years later he was created Earl of Lovelace in recognition of the:services he had rendered while in the Ionian Islands.
