1808 Advertisement: 'MACHINERY, &c. SALE BY AUCTION, By Mr Goodier, By order the assignees of Wm. Kirkby, a bankrupt, at a Cotton Factory, New Islington, Manchester, on Wednesday the 31st day of August, 1808, consisting of ...{list of carding engines, drawing frames}….. One double, devil, new, 7 cop reels, ….making-up presses, a large quantity of cotton cans, straps, gallowses and counter drums, doffing tins, Lathe, by Green, joiners' bench and tools, bellows and anvil, sundry skips, brass and iron, timber, &c. Also a quantity of cast iron shafts, gallowses and steps 1 large Engine Boiler for 20 horses' power, 1 large lead cistern, factory bell, &c. &c. For particulars apply the Auctioneer, 29, Edge- street. Sale to begin at ten o'clock.'[1]

1809 Advert: 'IRON FOUNDERS.
To LET, all that IRON FOUNDRY, situate in the Hill-Gate, in Stockport, in the county of Chester, and late in the possession or occupation of Wm. Kirkby and Co. This foundry is now in full employ, and in perfect working order and condition for working.
Also, all that other Iron Foundry, situate at Shooter's Brook, in Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, and late in the possession or occupation of Messrs Kirkby and Co.
N. B. The stock in trade, fixtures and utensils in both these foundries may be taken by any person who may become tenants, at a fair valuation.
Further particulars may he had by applying to Messrs Wood, Birch and Wood, Worsley's Court, Manchester; or at the office Mr Jepson, Solicitor, Manchester.[2]

1810 Advertisement: 'SPINNING FACTORY TO LET, And may be entered on immediatelv, A LARGE Factory, situate New Islington, and lately in the possession of Wm Kirkby, well fitted up with Mill Geer &c and furnished with an excellent Engine by Boulton and Watts, of Sixteen Horses power, together with a long range of Building behind the said premises, well adapted for reeling, picking, or taking in.rooms— The situation is very desirable, being on the banks of a rivulet which affords a constant supply of Water. For further particulars and to view the premises, apply to Jonathan Lees, Eagle Insurance Office, Church street; or Francis Dixon Commercial Buildings, High street.'[3]
