WILLIAM METCALF was born on the 3rd September, 1838, at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he died on the 5th December, 1909.
He was engaged all his life in the manufacture of iron and steel, formerly with the Fort Pitt Foundry and the Crescent Steel Company, and for the past 12 years as President of the Braeburn Steel Company.
He was a Past-President of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Mr. Metcalf was elected a Member of The Institution on the 3rd March, 1896.
