William Moncrieff Carr ( -1956)

1956 Died. 'The tragic death of Colonel William Moncrieff Carr, C.8.E., T.D., which was reported in last week's issue, has robbed the gas industry of one of its foremost figures. Colonel Carr was one of three sons of the late Isaac Carr, all of whom followed in their father's footsteps. As engineer and manager of the Widnes Gas and Water undertaking, Isaac Carr baffled the world with his production of cheap gas. He was a tremendous worker and brought up his sons in the same tradition....West Yorkshire Gas Distribution Co...His knowledge of the industry was recognised during the last war when he was appointed controller of the North-Western Gas Engineers Advisory Council. In 1953 he was president of the Institute of Gas Engineers, and in recent years he has been a member of the Gas Advisory Committee (North-Western Region) to the Ministry of Fuel and Power. During school holidays William regularly attended the Widnes Gas Works, where he worked alongside the titters, or in the '[1]
