"Recognized among historians of science for his many contributions to electro-chemistry, cylindrical printing, slide rules and horology and for launching the first monthly scientific journal in Britain: A Journal of Natural Philosophy, Chemistry and the Arts."[1]

1790 Patented the first rotary printing machine, a forerunner of modern rotary printing presses, but never actually built.

1806 Patent No. 2990 for Improvements in the Application of Steam to useful Purposes, and in the Apparatus required to the same[2]. This described the use of a steam jet and venturi to create a flow of elastic fluid, for example to provide an air blast for boiler and other furnaces.
