1857 'NOTICE is hereby given, that provisional protection has been allowed .... On their several petitions, recorded in the Office of the Commissioners on the 31st day of December, 1856. .... To William Rigby, of Salford, near Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, Engraver, for the invention of "improvements in machinery or apparatus for engraving metallic cylinders or rollers employed for printing calico and other substances."
