WILLIAM RITCHIE FAIRBAIRN, born in Liverpool on the 30th September, 1889, was killed in action near Ypres on the 5th May, 1915.
Educated at Oakes Institute, Walton, and Merchant Taylor's School, Crosby, he obtained his practical engineering experience at the Works of Messrs. John H. Wilson & Co., Ltd., Seacombe, passing through the fitting and turning shops and drawing office, and was with Messrs. Perkins Engineers, Ltd., Peterborough, for a period studying works organisation.
In September, 1912, he took up the position of Works Manager to Messrs. Henry Wilson and Co., Ltd., Cornhill Works.
Having been a member for some years of the 6th King's Liverpool Regiment (Territorials), at the beginning of the War he was called up, and went to France in February, 1915.
Mr. Fairbairn was elected an Associate Member of the Liverpool Engineering Society on the 7th February, 1912.
