He first worked for J. Jessop and Son in Leicester
1889 Formed partnership with Alfred Herbert and bought Coles and Matthews for 4,000 pounds. They renamed the company Herbert and Hubbard.
1890 Herbert bought out Hubbard's share [1][2]
1891 Living at Stretton Parve, Leicestershire (age 23 born Evington, Leics.), a Mechanical Engineers Draughtsman. With his parents George Hubbard, a Grazier and his wife Ann. Also his sister Edith. One servant. [3]

1900 Patent 14,822 for improvements to excavating machines was filed by William and William Sammons Hubbard

1911 Living at 29 Lincoln Street, Leicester (age 45 born Esington, Leicestershire), an Engineer, manufacturer and Employer (Steam and Electric Cranes). With his wife (married eight years and with two children) Evelyn Julia (age 34 born New York, British subject) and their daughter Dorothy Edith (age 6 born Leicester) and their son Horace Jordan (age 1 born Leicester).
