William Sellars
of Bristol
Inventor of "fast and loose" pulleys
1795 Sellars was in partnererhip with Peter Standage as a maker of spinning machines at Bridgnorth, in Shropshire
Soon after he moved to Bristol, where he carried on the same business,
1797 Sellars obtained a patent for improvements in machines for drawing out wool, flax, etc. - this included an early description of fast and loose pulleys, where the shaft can be driven by means of a belt and pulleys one of which is fixed fast to the shaft and the other is loose. The loose pulley allows the machine to be stopped without impeding the primary source of power.
1798 Sellars obtained another patent, which illustrated the fast and loose pulleys.
1814 he was living at Kemsey, Worcestershire
