WILLIAM SPENCER was born at Hollinwood, Manchester, on 28th December 1858, and early became associated with his father's business, James Spencer and Co., Ltd., founded in 1860.

Afterwards he became Managing Director of the Company, and took an active part in its management up to the time of his death.

He was also interested in the cotton trade of Lancashire, and was Director of several Mills. Having been in failing health for some time, his death took place at Hollinwood on 8th May 1924, in his sixty-sixth year.

He became a Member of this Institution in 1891.
