William Tait

William Tait (1810-1868) of Mirrlees and Tait
1810 January 13th. Born the son of John Tait (1785-1840) and his wife Janet McCall (c1790-1860).[1]
1845 Married Mary Newton the daughter of Thomas Newton.[2]
1851 Living at 10 Bellgrove Street, Glasgow: William Tait (age 41 born Carluke), a Mechanical Engineer. With his wife Mary Tait (age 28) and their children Ellen Tait (age 5), Jessie Tait (age 4) and William Tait (age 2). [3]
1852 Appointed manager in McOnie and Mirrlees
1858 William Tait became a partner in McOnie and Mirrlees, the name of the firm was changed to Mirrlees and Tait[4].
1861 Living at 28 Warwick Street, Glasgow: William Tait (age 51 born Buncle, Lanarks), a Mechanical Engineer. With his wife Mary N. Tait (age 38 born Glasgow) and their children Ellen N. Tait (age 15 born Glasgow), Jessie Mc Tait (age 14 born Glasgow) and William H. Tait (age 12 born Glasgow). Also one servant. [5]
1868 April 30th. Died of Liver Disease. The same year his daughter Mary Stewart Tait (inventor of the gym-slip) was born.
1869 Will. The deceased's Interest in the Co-partnership of Mirrlees and Tait, Engineers in Glasgow now in Liquidation
