1820 William Thorowgood became established in the type face business when he purchased Thorne's Foundry in Fann Street

1828 Edmund Fry tried to dispose of his type face business, Edmund Fry and Son. It was purchased by William Thorowgood of Fann Street and the stock removed in 1829.

Thorowgood became Letter Founder to His Majesty.

1838 The business became Thorowgood and Besley

1849 The business became Robert Besley and Co

1861 Charles Reed set up business in Fann St., which became Reed and Fox

1877 The business was renamed Sir Charles Reed and Sons

1894 Incorporated as a limited company

1905 Merger with Stephenson, Blake and Co as Stephenson, Blake and Co and Sir Charles Reed and Sons

1914 Name changed to Stephenson, Blake and Co
