WILLIAM WALLACE COSTER was born at Eastbourne in 1875, and received his early training with the Eastbourne Water Works Co.
In 1899 he went to South Africa as Assistant Resident Engineer at the Johannesburg Water Works. In the same year he was appointed Water Works Engineering Assistant to the Cape Town Municipality and became Assistant Water Engineer in the following July. During this period he carried out extensive work in connexion with a new distribution system.
In 1907 Mr. Coster returned to England and later visited South America and Canada, where he was engaged by the Municipality of Vancouver on Water Supply and Sewerage Works.
In 1909 he entered into partnership and took up consulting practice in that city.
Three years later he went to Sydney, New South Wales, and entered the service of the Metropolitan Board of Water Supply and Sewerage, and at the time of his death, on the 27th June 1926, was Supervising Engineer for Investigations.
He was elected an Associate Member of this Institution in 1903, and was a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
