William Watts (Bristol)

From Graces Guide

1782 patented a process for making lead shot for shotgun ammunition.

He poured molten lead through a sieve to form balls and allowed them to fall into water from various heights. The higher the drop, the bigger the shot.

He built a tower on his house in Redcliffe, Bristol and cut away all the internal floors for this process which earnt him a fortune. [1]
