"WILLIAM Willcock ROSKILLY was associated with the firm of Messrs. J. and H. McLaren, Ltd., engineers, of Leeds, from 1910, when he began to serve his apprenticeship, until his death, which occurred on 3rd March 1949, in his fifty-ninth year.
He received his general education at Tavistock Grammar School, and his technical training in mechanical and civil engineering at Leeds University. On the completion of his apprenticeship in 1913 he was employed as a draughtsman for three years. He was then made chief draughtsman and continued to hold this appointment until the close of his career.
During the war of 1914-18 he was appointed assistant to the general manager, his duties being to assist in designing and supervising the construction of special machinery for the manufacture of shells, ranging in calibre from 3.3 to 15 inches. Mr. Roskilly had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1917. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers."
