WWII Gort-Barten joined the British army.
1946 He bought a small factory in Camberwell as an outlet for his engineering skills and creativity
1946 Early products were a stainless steel fire screen, a cocktaik shaker and custard mixer.  The flip sided toaster was his first patented idea
The Dual-Light electric fire gave its name to the company: '''Dualit''' took its name.
Further toaster designs followed.
1952 First toaster with a timer
1954 Moved to a new factory in the Old Kent Road.
Other members of the family joined the company
2003 Max Gort-Barten died
2003 The company moved to new premises in Crawley, West Sussex.
Further products included DAB radios, food preparation appliances, a coffee machine.
