Albert Beaumont Wood (1890-1964) OBE, DSc
1890 born at Uppermill, Yorkshire
Educated at Huddersfield Technical College and Manchester University.
1912 graduated with 1st class honours in Physics. Joined Sir Ernest Rutherford's team of scientists engaged in atomic physics research.
1914 Physics lecturer at University of Liverpool.
1915 the Board of Invention and Research was set up by Lord Fisher. Wood joined it and, with H. Gerrard, lecturer in electrical engineering, became the first scientists attached to the Admiralty.
1915 Wood set up the Admiralty Experimental Station at Hawkcraig, Aberdour, Fife.
1917 He transferred the Station to Parkeston Quay, Harwich, Essex
1919 Moved to Shandon, Gare Loch
1921 Spent a few months at the Mining School, Portsmouth.
1921-36 he worked at the Admiralty Research Laboratory, Teddington
1936 worked at H.M. Signal School Portsmouth
1937-43 Chief Scientist at H.M. Mining School
1946-50 Deputy DPR (Physical Research) at Admiralty HQ
1950-64 at the Admiralty Research Laboratory.
