Richard Mountford Deeley (24 October 1855 — 19 June 1944). He was Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) of the [[Midland Railway]]. He was succeeded in 1909 by [[Henry Fowler]].

Deeley was born in Derby, the son of a [[Midland Railway]] accountant. He became a pupil of [[Samuel W. Johnson]] at [[Derby Works]] and was promoted to locomotive superintendent in 1904. He made significant contributions to compounding, adopting Smith's system for his "Midland Compound" 4-4-0s.
