1851 Census: Screwbolt manufacturer and machinist employing 96 hands, living at Old Trafford Hall, Chester Road, Stretford. with wife Ann (b. S. America), daughter Caroline, a servant and a cook.
1859 John Glasgow and Samuel Hand patented (16 April) a system of variable motion for slotting machines[1]
1861 Census: Engineer master, living at 1 Ash House, Stretford, with wife Ann (b. W. Indies (Guinea)(?)), daughter Caroline, and two servants.
1866 September 8th. Died. late of Bridgwater Viaduct, Engineer and Screw-bolt Manufacturer. Proved by his nephew Robert Hunter Laing, of 217 Brunswick Street, Chorlton-upon-Medlock, machinist.[2]
