Richard Ford had a Newcomen 'Fire Engine' installed in 1742 to lift water back up hill in Coalbrookdale making iron making a reliable year round operation for the first time
1747 Mr. Ford succeeded at Coalbrookdale in smelting iron ore with pit-coal, after which it was refined in the usual way by means of coke and charcoal. [1]
