1822 Manby and Wilson were among the first to obtain concessions to provide gas lighting for several streets in Paris. Their company, known as the Compagnie Anglaise, survived until 1847.
Attempted to introduce steam power for towing barges on some French rivers but met with only moderate success.
Responsible for early construction of steam engines and machinery in France.
Several of Manby's sons worked for the company for a time.
1830 on the out-break of the French Revolution, most of the English workmen in France left the country, several finding employment at home.
