Originally part of a line proposed by the Yorkshire and North Midland Railway from Beverley to Market Weighton to York. The Market Weighton to York line was built by Jackson and Bean and opened in 1847
1862 The North Eastern Railway gained a renewal of the powers which had been granted to build a line from Market Weighton to Beverley.
The line ran via Goodmanham, Cherry Burton to Beverley. The 11 mile (18 km) branch was opened on 1 May 1865.
1965 Services were withdrawn
