WILLIAM BOAK was born in Glasgow and went to sea for six years.
From 1882 to 1887 he served an apprenticeship with Messrs. Denny and Company, Dumbarton, and later entered the service of the British India Steam Navigation Company, in which he became a chief engineer in 1893.
He was appointed chief engineer at Messrs. Denny and Company's mills at Madras in 1897 and was promoted to the rank of superintending engineer in 1900. Entering into business as a consulting engineer in 1904, he represented Lloyd's Register, and was finally elected managing director of Messrs. Brown and Company, general engineers, Ceylon, which post he relinquished in January 1932.
Mr. Boak was elected to Membership of the Institution in 1902.
His death occurred at Colombo on 18th June 1932 in his seventy-first year.
