HENRY SHIMMIN was for more than twenty years resident mechanical engineer to the Globe and Phoenix Gold Mining Company, at Que Que, Southern Rhodesia.
He was born at Port St. Mary, Isle of Man, in 1865 and served his apprenticeship from 1881 to 1886 with Messrs. Napier Brothers, Ltd., Glasgow. In 1887 he was appointed machine shop foreman and held this position for eleven years.
He then went into business on his own account in Glasgow as a motor car and cycle engineer, but relinquished this in 1903, when he was appointed mechanical engineer to the Inez Gold Mining Company, Rhodesia.
