THOMAS JOPLING, manager and director of the Otis Steel Company, died at his residence in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 18, 1894, after an illness extending over three months.
He was one of the originators of the Otis Steel Company, and widely known as a business man of ability and character. Born in Northumberland on January 23, 1842, he proceeded at the age of twenty-one years to the United States, and settled in Western Pennsylvania, where he connected himself with the coal-mining industry.
In 1870 he went to Cleveland, and, with Charles A. Otis, formed the Otis Steel Company, with which concern he was identified until his death.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1889.
