"WILLIAM PETRIE, whose death occurred on 21st May 1951, was elected an Associate of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1922. He was born in 1867 and educated at Monmouth School. He began his professional career in 1883 as a clerk in Lloyds and for the next twenty-four years filled similar positions with shipping and commercial firms in the City of London. After acting as a director of Strong and Collings, Ltd., for three years, he went into business on his own account and established the firm of W. Petrie and Company, Ltd. (now Fibrax, Ltd.), London and Bentham, Yorkshire, makers of brake linings. He continued to be in control of the business as managing director for many years."
