"FREDERICK TREMAYNE LANE was educated at the Merchant Venturers' Technical College, and at the University at Bristol. After serving an apprenticeship with the engineer of the Bristol Docks, from 1910 to 1913, he was for a brief period a draughtsman under the Hon. R. C. Parsons, at 39 Victoria Street, Westminster, S.W.
During the war of 1914-18 he was engaged as a supervisor in the mechanical engineering department of the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich.
