"Lt Colonel HENRY HASTINGS CAVENDISH WITHERS, D.S.C, R.E., whose death occurred in London on 6th September 1948, at the age of forty-three, was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1933 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1938. He was educated at Cheltenham College and the [[Royal Military Academy, Woolwich]]. After two years' instruction at the School of Military Engineering, Chatham, he was commissioned in the Royal Engineers and posted to a field company and training battalion. Later he took an electrical and mechanical course in civilian works before going to India in 1934, where he was subsequently appointed garrison engineer at Quetta with responsibility to the C.R.E. for the design and construction of military earthquake-proof buildings. Colonel Withers saw active service in the war of 1939-45, was wounded and awarded the D .S .0. in 1940." | |||

"Lt Colonel HENRY HASTINGS CAVENDISH WITHERS, D.S.C, R.E., whose death occurred in London on 6th September 1948, at the age of forty-three, was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1933 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1938. He was educated at Cheltenham College and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich.
