"ROBERT THOMLINSON was in the service of the London County Council as superintendent engineer of pumping stations for nearly thirty years. He received his technical training at the West Bromwich Science School and served an apprenticeship with Mr. [[J. G. Marshall]], Birmingham, constructional engineer, from 1890 to 1895. He then joined the staff of [[Chance Brothers|Messrs. Chance Brothers]], Birmingham, as junior draughtsman, and later was engaged as assistant engineer in the lighthouse and glassworks departments of that firm.
