Henry Shull Arms (Fellow) died on Aug 6, aged 60. A graduate of the University of Idaho he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford where he took an honours degree in physics. Subsequently he was awarded a doctorate for research in low-temperature physics and was also appointed to the academic staff at Oxford. He was later awarded an honorary doctorate of science by the University of Idaho.
During the war Dr Arms undertook research into the uses of nuclear energy and from 1945-46 worked at the Chalk River Atomic Plant in Canada. He returned to England to become Head of the Engineering Laboratories at Harwell.


In 1953 he joined the [[English Electric Co]], and became Chief Engineer, Atomic Power Project Group with responsibility for the design and development of nuclear power stations at Hinkley Point, Sizewell and Wylfa. From 1965 until his death he was employed as Technical Director of [[Marconi Instruments|Marconi Instruments Ltd]].

Henry Shull Arms (Fellow) died on Aug 6, aged 60. A graduate of the University of Idaho he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford where he took an honours degree in physics. Subsequently he was awarded a doctorate for research in low-temperature physics and was also appointed to the academic staff at Oxford. He was later awarded an honorary doctorate of science by the University of Idaho.
