'The proprietors of James Martin and Co., Iron Founders of Rouen, France, were C. J. Martin, J. R. Hownam and Louise Martin. The estate was liquidated in favour of Miss Louise Martin. On the death of Miss Martin, her estate was divided (1838-1874) between Mrs. W. B. Buddicom (nee Hownam, .....) and Mrs. S. Meek (Madame Jane Josephine Hownam, wife of Mr. Sturges Meek, living in Smedley Lane, Manchester). The estate comprised a large factory, coke ovens, and dwelling houses of considerable value. William Martin was Mrs. W. B. Buddicom's cousin he collaborated with W. B. Buddicom to form the Sotteville-Buddicom Co., Locomotive Works, Rouen.'[1]
