Louis Joseph Vicat (1786-1861)

French engineer who made important contributions in the fields of cement technology and suspension bridge design and construction using iron wire.

Vicat envisaged the method of installing suspension bridge wires by 'air-spinning', later perfected by John Augustus Roebling. It appears that his method was used on two bridges completed in 1840, namely Roche-Bernard and Tours.[1]
