1868 'Funeral the late Mr. John Carmichael.— The funeral of this gentleman, which took place on Tuesday last, partook of quite a public character, although had only resided in Banbury four years. He was followed to the grave by all the employes of the works, and by many gentlemen in the town and from a distance by whom he was so much esteemed. He was born in Dundee, and when 22 years of age had an engagement in Rochfort, in France, where some steam-ships were being built for a Dutch Company. He was there married to a French lady, now his widow. He was afterwards employed by the Government in the Steam Department at Portsmouth dockyard. In 1851 undertook the management of the [[Soho Foundry|Soho Works]], near Birmingham.
