1913 A new central generating station for the borough of Stoke-on-Trent was opened in Hanley. The initial capacity was provided by 2 1500kW turbo-generating sets but there was space to expand with 4 more sets. The new station formed part of a scheme of high tension transmission to the other towns in the borough; Burslem, Hanley, Longton and Stoke already had their own stations but they operated on different systems so transforming plant was installed to make connection with the existing systems[1]
1919 A new 3000kW turbo-generator was brought into operation at Hanley to cope with rising demand.
1922 Another 3000kW turbo-generator was installed at Hanley, constructed by Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co, and was essentially a duplicate of the third set which was installed in 1919.
