1905 Joined Herbert Austin when he formed Austin
1959. He died.
The man who was number one on the staff of the Austin Motor Company, William 'Bobby' Howitt from Rose Hill, Rednal, died aged 79.
Mr Howitt had been private secretary to Lord Austin from the time when he had established the firm at Longbridge. Then he had written letters sat on a packing case with his typewriter balanced on a workbench.
‘Bobby’ it was said possessed the same dynamism for business as his former boss.
A keen scout leader, his Lickey troop was known as 'Austin's Own' and had its headquarters in the car factory. [1]
