"....John Henry Silley, which took place at Port Navis, Cornwall, on Friday last, January 24th , the shipbuilding and ship-repairing industry of South England has lost one of its outstanding figures of the last half century. John Silley was born at Chepstow in Monmouthshire in 1872, and after leaving school was apprenticed to the engineering firm of Edward Finch and Co., of Chepstow. On completing his training in 1892 he came to London and went to sea in a steamer of the Star Line, belonging to J. P. Cory and Co. His progress with the company..."More.
