1865 'MARRIED. On Feb. 7th, at the Cathedral Church, Madras, by the Ven. Archdeacon Dealtry, John Herbert Latham Esq., Fellow of Clare-college, Cambridge, C.E., eldest son of the Rev. J. Latham, Vicar of Little Eaton, and Canon of Lichfield, to Rosina Harriet, eldest daughter of Lieut. Col H. Young, late 24th Regiment, of Bedford.'[2]

JOHN HERBERT LATHAM, M.A. (Cantab.), born at Derby on the 30th July, 1831, died at Auckland, N.Z., on the 12th July, 1910.
Apprenticed to the late Mr. J. M. Rendel, Past-President, he subsequently became his chief assistant.
In 1858 he went out to India on the works of the Madras Irrigation Company, and served as their Chief Engineer for 22 years, after which he took up farming in New Zealand. For a Paper descriptive of the irrigation works he was awarded a Telford medal and premium.
Mr. Latham was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 6th December, 1859, and was transferred to the class of Members on the 17th December, 1886.
