EDWARD MIDGLEY, M.Sc., was educated at Leeds University where he graduated B.Sc. with first-class honours in electrical engineering in 1921. He obtained his degree in 1939. After serving his apprenticeship, from 1913 to 1917, with Messrs. James N. Durie, screwing machine makers, and with Messrs. Concord and Company, he became a fitter, first in Portsmouth Dockyard and later, during 1919-20, with Messrs. Brunner Mond, Ltd.

Mr. Midgley was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1940, a few months before his death. He was killed in an air raid on 13th September 1940, in his forty-sixth year.
