1973 Bio Note [1]
F. Roberts, BSc, CEng, FIChemE took his degree in chemistry, then studied to become a professional chemical engineer. After initial experience with ICI as a Plant Manager, he joined the atomic energy project at Windscale moving to Harwell's Chemical Engineering Division in 1953. In 1959 he was appointed Head of the Materials Group of the division.
During the early 'sixties, his team was involved in the development of the coated nuclear fuel concept for the High-temperature Gas-cooled Reactor installed by the OECD Dragon Project, at AEE Winfrith. He subsequently became Project Leader for carbon fibre research at Harwell. He has been active on behalf of the Institution of Chemical Engineer's Research Committee for a number of years and is interested in resource problems of the future as they relate to engineering materials.
