CLAUDE EDWARD CROCKER went to Perth, Western Australia, in 1915, to take over the general managership of the City Council Electricity and Gas Department.
He was born in the United States in 1876 and his early training was received in the works of the General Electric Company at Schenectady. He first went to Australia in 1900 to become engineer of the Deep Leads Electric Power Transmission Company of Victoria, a position be relinquished the following year to go to Kalgoorlie, where for fourteen years, until his Perth appointment in 1915, he was engineer and attorney for the Kalgoorlie Electric Power and Lighting Corporation.
Mr. Crocker was chairman of West Australian Airways, and a director of the West Australian Woollen Mills and of many other local companies. He was a member of the Rottnest Island Board of Control, of the Royal Commission appointed by the Federal Government in January 1927 to inquire into wireless broadcasting, and of the State Committee of the Australian Engineering Standards Association.
He became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1903 and was transferred to membership in 1914; he was also a member of the Western Australian Advisory Committee.
For the year 1926-27 he was President of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
His death occurred on 5th March 1929.

In 1900 he was appointed by Messrs. J. G. White and Co. of London construction engineer at Moolort, Victoria, and Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.
In 1902 he became engineer and general manager of the Kalgoorlie Electric Power and Lighting Corporation, and remained with that company 14 years.
He was appointed in 1915 by the Perth City Council to take charge of their electricity and gas department, and served in that capacity until his death.
He was prominently associated with many local commercial enterprises and was also a member of the Royal Commission appointed by the Federal Government in January 1927 to inquire into wireless broad- casting. He enjoyed a considerable personal popularity in the city of Perth, the straightforward and frank traits of his character winning him respect and regard.
He died on the 3rd March, 1929, leaving a widow and one daughter. He joined the Institution in 1904 as an Associate Member and was elected a Member in the following year. In 1918 he was elected president of the Western Australian Institute of Engineers, and in 1926-27 was president of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
