1891 May 22nd. The first Bordeaux to Paris cycle race held over 358 miles with 38 competitors of which five were English. Won by [[George Pilkington Mills|G. P. Mills]] and followed by [[M. A. Holbein]], [[Selwyn Edge|S. F. Edge]], and [[J. E. L. Bates]]. [[Poyntz Charles Twentyman|P. C. Twentyman]] also finished.<ref>The Standard (London, England), Monday, May 25, 1891</ref>
