1942/43 Obituary [1]

Charles Smith was born in 1879 and received his engineering training at Harrisons, Lowestoft, and at J. I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd.

After gaining further automobile engineering experience with Brooke Motors, Lowestoft, he became Manager of Caffyns, Ltd., Eastbourne, where he remained for seventeen years.

In 1930 he started his own business as Consultant and Automobile Claims Assessor and only retired in 1940 owing to illness.

He died on 23rd January, 1943. He was 64.

He was elected an Associate Member in 1908 and transferred to Member in 1929.
