Lawrence Hargreaves (1850-1915)

Born on 29th January 1850 at Greenwich but emigrated to New South Wales in 1866.
 
Employed as a engineer-draughtsman
 
Joined the Sydney Observatory
 
From 1883 he dedicated his efforts to aviation living off a private income. He is famous for his design of box kite which became very successful and was the basis of many other designs including those of [[Samuel Cody]]. He refused to patent this design and made it freely available to other experimenters.
 
He gave two lectures which are detailed in the [[Aeronautical Journal]] in April 1897 and July 189.
 
Returned to England in 1899 but went back to Australia after six months.
 
He died on 16th July 1915
