1900 Obituary. 'The death of John Blake, J.P., of Oxford street, took place yesterday. Mr Blake had been ailing for some time, but succumbed to pneumonia. He was self made man, of an inventive turn of mind, and in his younger days a workman the town. Since then, however, had reaped wealth from the manufacture of his patent 'hydraulic rams'. These appliances are now in use for raising water, &c., in many parts of the world. A few years ago he converted his foundry Blake-street into limited liability company, but retained the ordinary shares, and his position as managing director. Mr Blake was a magistrate of the borough, and a Liberal, but did not take an active part in politics. He was 66 years age.
