Founded by [[David W. Pond]] in 1872. He bought out the failed business of his father, [[Lucius W. Pond]] in 1875, and merged it to form D. W. Pond, Successor to L. W. Pond,, located in Worcester, Mass. In 1883, the firm became the Pond Machine Tool Co. and moved to Plainfields, NJ in 1887. D. W. Pond sold his interest in the company to Manning, Maxwell & Moore. Pond,, located in Worcester, Mass. In 1883, the firm became the Pond Machine Tool Co. and moved to Plainfields, NJ in 1887. D. W. Pond sold his interest in the company to Manning, Maxwell & Moore. They merged with Niles Tool Works and Bement Miles and Co. to form Niles-Bement-Pond Co.[1]

The L. W. Pond Machine Co of 140 Union Street, Worcester, Mass., were advertising in 1889 as machine tool makers and dealers[2]
