c.1883 Mr. Seaton and Sir Edward Reed constructed the Bessemer.  In this vessel the saloon was designed to be kept steady in all weathers.  The original idea was to have it controlled by hand, but later it was decided to use a gyroscope.  Later Mr MacFarlane Gray demolished the underlying theory.
